The Justifications page appears when your selected system type requires a written justification to proceed. The page title updates to reflect the specific justification type needed.
When This Page Appears
The Justifications page is shown for system configurations that fall outside standard design guidance:

Standard systems and Professional Engineer (PE) systems do not use this page — standard systems need no justification, and PE systems handle their requirements through a separate process.
What to Write
The justification must explain why this system type is appropriate for the specific site conditions. The written justification becomes part of the permanent design record and is included in the final design report.
Requirements
- The justification must be non-economic. Cost savings alone is not an acceptable justification for an alternate or experimental system.
- The justification should reference the site-specific conditions that make this system type necessary or appropriate.
- For BTG repairs, explain why Best Technical Guidance provisions are being invoked — typically because the existing system has failed and site conditions do not support a standard replacement.
Persona Defaults
Your persona may include default justification notes (configured in the Persona Editor under the Defaults section). If set, the justification text area will be pre-populated with this default text when entering the page for a new design. You can edit or replace the default text as needed for each specific site.
Tips
- If you frequently use the same justification language, set it as the default in your persona to save time.
- The justification entered here is separate from any area adjustment justification on the Absorption Area Adjustments page. Both may be required depending on your design.
