Dosing Pump

The Dosing Pump page appears when your system uses a pump to deliver effluent. This page may appear as either “Pump Selection for Discharge Dosing” or “Pump Selection for Puraflo Biofilter Dosing” depending on the purpose of the pump.

How Pump Selection Works

The pump list is displayed as a tree organized by manufacturer. Each pump model is evaluated against the system’s calculated requirements:

  • Enabled (selectable) — the pump meets the head and flow requirements
  • Disabled (grayed out) — the pump cannot deliver sufficient head or flow

Discharge Pumps

For discharge dosing, a pump must provide enough head (pressure) at the required flow rate to overcome:

  • The elevation change from the dosing tank to the absorption area
  • Friction losses in the delivery line and fittings
  • A safety margin (surplus head) set in your persona

Filter Pumps

For Puraflo biofilter dosing, pumps are evaluated differently. The secondary treatment system checks each pump for flow suitability — whether the pump’s flow characteristics match the filter’s requirements. Pumps rated “Okay” are preferred; those rated “Marginally High” are allowed as fallbacks if no better option exists.

Optimal Selection

When entering the page for the first time, the wizard automatically selects the optimal pump — typically the lowest-horsepower model that meets all requirements. You can override this selection.

Pump Curves

When you select a pump, the summary area displays a pump curve chart showing:

  • The pump’s performance curve (head vs. flow rate) in blue
  • The system demand in red

This chart helps you verify that the pump will perform well at your system’s actual conditions.

Validation

You must select at least one pump to proceed. If no pumps are enabled, the wizard will display “No pumps available!” — this typically means the system’s flow or head requirement exceeds what any pump in the database can deliver.

Tips

  • Selecting multiple pumps (when allowed) includes all of them in the design report as acceptable options.
  • The surplus head setting in your persona affects which pumps qualify. A higher surplus head requirement disqualifies more pumps but provides greater safety margin.
